The Spanish national football team will play the Czech Republic in Asturias on 3 October at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium in Oviedo, in an official UEFA Nations League match.
The Spanish national football team will play in Asturias eleven years on
Asturias will once again host an official match for the Spanish national football team, eleven years after its last visit to the region. Spain will face the Czech Republic on 3 October at 8.45 pm at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium in Oviedo/Uviéu, in a fixture for the third matchday of the UEFA Nations League.
The event, organised in partnership with the Regional Ministry of Culture, Language Policy and Sport, will give Asturian fans their first chance to see the world champions play at home since they secured their second star.
The Carlos Tartiere will once again welcome ‘La Roja’
The match will mark the Spanish national team’s return to Oviedo/Uviéu following their last visit in September 2015, when they beat Slovakia 2–0 in a Euro qualifier also played at the Carlos Tartiere.
To date, La Roja have played seven matches in the Asturian capital, with a record of five wins, one draw and one defeat.
The national team’s return has been made possible thanks to the support of the Government of Asturias and the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the Royal Football Federation of the Principality of Asturias and Oviedo City Council.
Spain will arrive as world champions
Spain will go into the competition as the top-ranked team in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings, having won the World Cup in the United States.
The match in Oviedo/Uviéu will be the national team’s second fixture on home soil since winning their second World Cup title. The first will be played in Seville.
The Czech Republic will be Spain’s opponent in a fixture in which the national team remains unbeaten. The two sides have met on seven occasions, with Spain recording five wins and two draws.
The most recent encounter took place in the 2022 UEFA Nations League, when Spain won 2–0 in a tournament which the national team went on to win.
Hosting this match cements Asturias’ place on the calendar of major sporting events and will allow thousands of fans to once again enjoy an official La Roja match in Oviedo/Uviéu.
