In its weather forecast for today, Wednesday 29 July 2026, in Spain, the AEMET is forecasting high temperatures, which will exceed 35 degrees across much of the interior of the peninsula, the interior of Mallorca and the south of Gran Canaria, and will reach 40–42 degrees in the river valleys of the south-western quadrant, the Ebro Valley and Navarre. Locally heavy showers are forecast in the Girona Pyrenees.
The heatwave is beginning. Atmospheric conditions remain stable, with mostly clear or partly cloudy skies. Low cloud is only expected along the coasts of Galicia, the Cantabrian coast and, in the morning, in Andalusia and Mallorca. Some convective clouds will form over the Iberian System and the Pyrenees; locally heavy showers may occur in the Girona Pyrenees. In the Canary Islands, low cloud is expected on the northern slopes and clear skies on the southern slopes.
Fog is likely in Galicia and along the Cantabrian coast, tending to clear during the day. Haze is forecast in the south of the Peninsula and in the easternmost part of the Canary Islands.
Maximum temperatures will rise in the eastern third of the Iberian Peninsula, in Castile and León and in the archipelagos, and will fall significantly in Galicia and along the Cantabrian coast. Temperatures are forecast to exceed 35 degrees in large areas of the peninsular interior, the interior of Mallorca and the south of Gran Canaria, and to reach 40–42 degrees in the river valleys of the south-western quadrant, the Ebro valley and Navarre. Minimum temperatures will rise across the board on the mainland and in the Canary Islands, particularly in the upper Ebro basin; they will only fall in Cádiz, western Galicia and Menorca. Tropical nights are expected, with temperatures not dropping below 20 degrees, in the Mediterranean and in the river valleys of the southern half of the country.
In the Strait of Gibraltar, a moderate easterly wind will blow, whilst in the Canary Islands the trade winds will be moderate with strong intervals and possible very strong gusts in exposed areas. The wind will be moderate and from the north-east along the south-eastern coasts of the Peninsula; light and from the west on the Cantabrian coast and in northern Galicia; and light, predominantly from the south-west, in the rest of the country.
