Foto: BMW AG\/dpa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>De 0 a 50 km\/h en solo tres segundos: no con un coche deportivo, sino con un subcompacto el\u00e9ctrico. <strong>Cuando el fabricante alem\u00e1n BMW lanz\u00f3 el i3 en 2013, los f\u00e9rreos aficionados al motor de combusti\u00f3n sacud\u00edan la cabeza consternados ante los sem\u00e1foros. Demasiado corto, demasiado alto, neum\u00e1ticos demasiado finos y encima con accionamiento el\u00e9ctrico. Pero muy r\u00e1pido.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00abEl BMW i3 fue un aut\u00e9ntico pionero de la movilidad el\u00e9ctrica y una apuesta audaz de BMW\u00bb, afirma <strong>Paolo Tumminelli. \u00abFue el primer coche de BMW concebido y dise\u00f1ado puramente como un coche el\u00e9ctrico, con todas sus ventajas e inconvenientes\u00bb<\/strong>, se\u00f1ala el profesor de Dise\u00f1o de la Escuela Superior T\u00e9cnica de la ciudad de Colonia. Con el i3, BMW marc\u00f3 nuevas pautas t\u00e9cnicas.<\/p>\n<p>Para su dise\u00f1o, los desarrolladores aprovecharon al m\u00e1ximo las ventajas de espacio que ofrec\u00eda el motor el\u00e9ctrico. Este se encuentra en la parte trasera, bajo el maletero, y las bater\u00edas van montadas en el suelo del coche, lo que garantiza mucho espacio interior con unas dimensiones exteriores compactas.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>En algunos modelos, la desventaja de una corta autonom\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica se compensa con un extensor de autonom\u00eda. Este peque\u00f1o motor de gasolina a bordo puede cargar la bater\u00eda durante la conducci\u00f3n.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>La carrocer\u00eda, que solo mide cuatro metros, est\u00e1 hecha a partir de fibra de carbono, aluminio y pl\u00e1stico y es m\u00e1s ligera que una de acero. \u00abEsto demuestra por s\u00ed solo la calidad de un concepto bien pensado e innovador\u00bb, enfatiza el profesor Tumminelli. Con 15,3 kWh por cada 100 kil\u00f3metros seg\u00fan el ciclo WLTP, el cuatro plazas, que solo pesa 1,3 toneladas, consume a\u00fan hoy relativamente poco.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00abEl i3 representa la entrada de BMW en la movilidad el\u00e9ctrica y cuenta como un hito importante en la larga historia de la compa\u00f1\u00eda\u00bb, afirma Caroline Exne<\/strong>r, directora de Producto del BMW i3.<\/p>\n<p>En 2011, BMW hab\u00eda presentado el concepto de un coche urbano el\u00e9ctrico denominado i3 Concept. La presentaci\u00f3n del coche de producci\u00f3n tuvo lugar en 2013, poco despu\u00e9s comenz\u00f3 la producci\u00f3n en serie en la planta de Leipzig. Para ello, BMW cre\u00f3 la submarca BMW i. El \u00faltimo modelo sali\u00f3 de la l\u00ednea de producci\u00f3n a finales de junio de 2022. En total se vendieron del i3 unas 250.000 unidades en 74 pa\u00edses.<\/p>\n<p>Para el profesor <strong>Stefan Bratzel<\/strong>, el i3 ocup\u00f3, en el momento de su presentaci\u00f3n, una posici\u00f3n de liderazgo en electromovilidad casi tan importante como la que tiene Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abEl i3 fue un interesante intento de un fabricante alem\u00e1n de desarrollar su propia plataforma el\u00e9ctrica y un veh\u00edculo aut\u00f3nomo\u00bb, afirma el director del Centro de Gesti\u00f3n de la Automoci\u00f3n (CAM), con sede en el estado federado alem\u00e1n de Renania del Norte-Westfalia. \u00abEl enfoque es similar al de Tesla y representa el inicio de la movilidad el\u00e9ctrica por parte de un fabricante alem\u00e1n\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, los elevados costes de desarrollo y la costosa producci\u00f3n de carbono hicieron que el i3 no tuviera \u00e9xito desde el punto de vista econ\u00f3mico; las expectativas fueron superiores a las ventas reales. Por ello, el experto opina que se tomaron decisiones err\u00f3neas con la costosa carrocer\u00eda de carbono y en la elecci\u00f3n del segmento.<\/p>\n<p>El utilitario el\u00e9ctrico, bastante caro, no era compatible con el mercado de masas. <strong>\u00abBMW podr\u00eda haber ganado m\u00e1s dinero con una clase de veh\u00edculos superior\u00bb, afirma el profesor Bratzel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Otros pioneros tuvieron dificultades similares. Tumminelli pone como ejemplo el De Lorean DMC-12 de 1981, que fue dise\u00f1ado por Giorgio Giugiaro como el primer coche \u00e9tico porque era sostenible y estaba construido para durar. El veh\u00edculo inclu\u00eda una carrocer\u00eda dise\u00f1ada por Lotus con una estructura portante de pl\u00e1stico reforzado con fibra y revestimiento exterior de acero inoxidable.<\/p>\n<p>Debido a una financiaci\u00f3n inadecuada, el coche con puertas de ala de gaviota result\u00f3 ser un fracaso, a pesar de alcanzar un estatus de culto como m\u00e1quina del tiempo en la trilog\u00eda cinematogr\u00e1fica \u00abRegreso al futuro\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan <strong>Tuminelli<\/strong>, el A2 de la alemana Audi tambi\u00e9n impresion\u00f3 en el a\u00f1o 2000 con su carrocer\u00eda de aluminio y su forma de monovolumen de cinco puertas, pero se dej\u00f3 de fabricar tras solo cinco a\u00f1os.<strong> \u00abEl marco espacial de aluminio no escalable era simplemente demasiado caro\u00bb, explica el acad\u00e9mico. En otras palabras, el dise\u00f1o no pod\u00eda utilizarse para otros modelos.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Con el XL1, el fabricante alem\u00e1n Volkswagen cre\u00f3 entre 2013 y 2016 un veh\u00edculo caro, aunque minimalista, que solo consum\u00eda alrededor de un litro de di\u00e9sel cada 100 kil\u00f3metros. Un coche para coleccionistas: solo se fabricaron 200 unidades que ya estaban vendidas antes de comenzar la producci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Con el Polo 3L Bluemotion, Volkswagen tambi\u00e9n ofreci\u00f3 entre 2009 y 2014 un utilitario que consum\u00eda 3,3 litros cada 100 kil\u00f3metros. Sin embargo, la baja demanda debida a los elevados costes de adquisici\u00f3n hizo que el austero Polo no fuera rentable para VW.<\/p>\n<p>Como tantas veces en la historia del autom\u00f3vil:<strong> el BMW i3 se adelant\u00f3 a su tiempo<\/strong>, lleg\u00f3 al mercado demasiado pronto. Seg\u00fan Tumminelli, tambi\u00e9n modelos innovadores y progresistas como el Fiat 500, el Renault Twingo, el Renault Avantime, el Porsche 928, el Smart Fortwo o el Audi A2 tuvieron dificultades iniciales o problemas de aceptaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>El hecho de que el i3 est\u00e9 siendo ahora eliminado tambi\u00e9n se debe a su plataforma. \u00abHay solo algunas pocas sinergias con otros modelos, lo que resulta caro en producci\u00f3n y desarrollo\u00bb, puntualiza Bratzel.
